“From fashion to recycling. New regulations – an opportunity or a challenge?” On March 19, another debate from the UrbanTalk series took place at the Wyższa Szkoła Zarządzania i Bankowości w Krakowie.
Can our clothes have a second life? Are the new regulations on textile waste a real change or just a formality? These and many other questions were answered by experts during the UrbanTalk debate #wyznaczamykierunkimiasta
The meeting was attended by leaders of the fashion and waste management industry: Agata Kurek, creator of the ethical fashion brand KOKOworld, Anna Żądło, stylist and promoter of vintage fashion, Kazimierz Szewczyk, Director of System Supervision at MPO Kraków, and Paula Jarosz, celebrity stylist and editor-in-chief of MIUMAG. The event was also attended by the young generation – pupils and students. The event was opened by Borys Makary, Chancellor of Wyższa Szkoła Zarządzania i Bankowości, and the meeting was hosted by Aleksandra Wasilewska, radio and television journalist.
The debate highlighted the need for education and greater consumer awareness. The speakers emphasized that responsible fashion is not just a trend, but a necessity – especially in the face of data showing that every Pole throws away about 16 kg of textiles per year. Experts pointed to the enormous challenges related to the new regulations, but also opportunities: the growing interest in upcycling, second-hand shops and repairing clothes instead of throwing them away.
Conclusion? Each of us has a real impact on the future of fashion – all you have to do is choose wisely: buy less, but better, give clothes a second life and support brands that care about the environment.
