“Not as eco-friendly as they are painted!” – another Urban Talk debate
16 Jan '25

“Not as eco-friendly as they are painted!” – on January 15 another debate took place as part of UrbanTalk #wyznaczeniimiasta. This time, high school students from Kraków and the surrounding area took the floor. Subject matter of the event concerned sustainable development, ecology, local initiatives and building a civil society.

Although reports indicate that ecological issues are important for Gen Z, young people often do not know how to put their ideas into practice. During the debate, participants presented their own ideas and experiences. Among the represented schools were: Powiatowe Centrum Kształcenia Zawodowego i Ustawicznego w Wieliczce, , Zespół Szkół Poligraficzno-Medialnych w Krakowie, Zespół Szkół Ekonomicznych nr 2 w Krakowie and Zespół Szkół Łączności w Krakowie.

Topics covered include: waste segregation, reducing plastic, combating food waste and the phenomenon of fast shopping. There was also plenty of inspiring discussions about initiatives that young people could get involved in as well as exchanges of good practices in the field of everyday eco-habits.

Are young people ready to create city and school gardens, clean up the world, or maybe promote more effective waste segregation? Who should take the greatest responsibility for climate change – governments, corporations or individuals?

The meeting was led by Chancellor Dr. Borys Makary and Vice-Dean of WSZiB Dr. Magdalena Kowalska-Musiał.

The broadcast of the event is available on our YouTube channel.
